El review es la opción que más gente elige en el writing de B2 y C1, porque parece la más fácil. Y lo es, con una condición: un review no es un resumen. Si cuentas la película, suspendes; lo que se puntúa es tu valoración y tu recomendación.

El párrafo 2 es el que hunde la nota. Debe ocupar como mucho el veinte por ciento del texto. Si le dedicas la mitad, el examinador anota «descriptive rather than evaluative» y ahí se va el aprobado.

Modelo completo
Tarea: Write a review of a restaurant you have been to recently for an international student magazine. Say what you liked and did not like, and whether you would recommend it.
I recently ate at La Cantina, a small Mexican place that has opened near the university, and I left with distinctly mixed feelings.
The restaurant occupies what used to be a bookshop, and they have kept the shelves, which gives the room an unusually warm atmosphere for somewhere so cheap. The menu is short — eight dishes and no more — which is usually a good sign.
The food itself is where the place really stands out. The tacos are made to order and arrive genuinely hot, something surprisingly rare at this price. My only reservation concerns the service: we waited almost forty minutes on a Tuesday evening, and nobody apologised or explained why.
Would I go back? Yes, but not if I were in a hurry. I would recommend La Cantina to anyone who wants an excellent, inexpensive meal and has an evening to spare — and I would warn anyone with a train to catch to eat somewhere else.
Fíjate en que la descripción ocupa un solo párrafo corto y que la crítica no es plana: hay un elogio con matices y una pega concreta con dato. Eso es lo que separa un review de nivel de una lista de adjetivos.

Las dos son correctas. Solo una es de B2.
- «La película es muy buena.»The film is very good.The film is genuinely gripping.Gripping — very good no puntúa. En el writing de B2 se valora la precisión léxica, y very + adjetivo básico es lo primero que penaliza.
- «Lo único malo es el precio.»My only reservation is the price.The only bad thing is the price.My only reservation is… — fórmula de crítica educada, muy típica del review.
- «Se hace larga por el medio.»It is long in the middle.It drags in the middle.It drags — verbo específico. To drag = hacerse pesado.
- «Merece la pena verla.»It is well worth a watch.It is worth to watch it.Well worth a watch — worth nunca va con infinitivo: o va con sustantivo o con -ing.
Ejercicio 2 · Completa la fórmula
Escribe la palabra que falta.
- The story ___ around a family in post-war Italy.revolves around = gira en torno a. Muy útil para presentar una trama sin resumirla.
- What really ___ out is the soundtrack.stands out = destaca. Phrasal verb clave en los reviews.
