It is raining, It was cold. Ese it no se puede quitar.

Nombre (sustantivo)VerboAdjetivoEjemplo
rainto rainrainyIt is raining. / It is a rainy day.
sunto shinesunnyThe sun is shining. / It is sunny.
windto blowwindyIt is very windy today.
snowto snowsnowyIt snowed last night.
cloud-cloudyIt is cloudy.
fog-foggyIt was foggy this morning.
storm-stormyA storm is coming.
ice-icyThe roads are icy.
heat-hotIt is boiling today.

It is cold, no it does cold ni it makes cold.

Todo el vocabulario del tiempo se construye con be más adjetivo: it is sunny, it was windy, it will be cold. Es el error más repetido del tema.

¿Cómo se dice hace sol ?

It is sunny o The sun is shining.

What is the weather like?

La respuesta es It is sunny. También vale How is the weather?, más americano.

¿Cómo se dice hace veinte grados ?

It is twenty degrees.

What time is it? pregunta la hora; What is the weather like? pregunta si llueve.

FraseSignifica

It's drizzling.Chispea, llovizna
It's brightening up.Está despejando
It's a lovely day.Hace un día precioso
We're in for a storm.Se avecina tormenta
Lovely weather, isn't it?La frase para empezar una conversación

Los errores del hispanohablante

ErrorPor qué pasaLo correcto
It makes cold.Traducimos hace frío It is cold.
What time is it outside? para preguntar el tiempoConfundimos time con weatherWhat is the weather like?
It is very freezing.Le ponemos very a un extremoIt is absolutely freezing.
The weathers are bad.Lo ponemos en pluralThe weather is bad.
It is warm para decir hace mucho calor Confundimos templado con calienteIt is hot.
