Los phrasal verbs con give son pocos pero altísimamente frecuentes: dos de ellos salen en casi todos los exámenes de B1 y B2. La idea que los une es la de soltar o entregar algo, aunque sea la resistencia.

El rey es give up: rendirse, y también dejar un hábito. I gave up smoking no es «me rendí fumando», es «dejé de fumar». Va siempre con -ing.

Ejercicio 1 · Completa la partícula

Escribe solo la partícula que falta (up, out, on…).

Elige qué significa el phrasal verb en cada frase.

  1. «He gave up his job.» significa…Lo dejóLo perdióLo consiguióGive up = renunciar voluntariamente. Si te echan es lose your job o be made redundant.
