Tres o más: more / the most.

Una sílaba-erthe -esttall, taller, the tallest
Dos sílabas acabadas en -y-ierthe -iesteasy, easier, the easiest
Dos sílabas o másmorethe mostmodern, more modern, the most modern

AdjetivoComparativoSuperlativo
good / wellbetterthe best
bad / badlyworsethe worst
farfurther / fartherthe furthest / the farthest
littlelessthe least
much / manymorethe most

This exam is ___ (difficult) than the last one.

more difficult than.

More tall no existe.

She is ___ (happy) now than she was last year.

happier than.

My flat is not ___ (big) ___ yours.

not as big as yours.

Aquí no hay comparativo: entre as ... as el adjetivo va tal cual, sin -er ni more. As bigger as es imposible. Y ojo al significado: not as big as es la forma educada de decir smaller than.

That was ___ (bad) film of the year.

the worst film of the year.

Superlativo irregular, y con the obligatorio. El superlativo lleva the siempre, porque señala a uno solo: the best, the most expensive, the tallest.

Madrid is bigger ___ Vigo. / It is the biggest city ___ Spain.

bigger than Vigo y the biggest city in Spain.

Dos preposiciones distintas y muy fáciles de cruzar: el comparativo lleva than, el superlativo lleva in (para lugares) o of (para grupos y periodos). The best of the year, the tallest in the class.

The film was ___ (good) than I expected.

better than I expected.

Good no admite -er ni more: es irregular.

EstructuraSignificadoEjemplo
as ... asigual deShe is as tall as her brother.
not as ... asmenos queIt is not as cold as yesterday.
the more ..., the more ...cuanto más..., más...The more you practise, the easier it gets.
...and ...cada vez másIt is getting colder and colder.
much / far / a bit + comparativomucho / bastante másThis one is much cheaper.

Esa última fila resuelve un error muy repetido: delante de un comparativo no va very, va much, far, a lot o a bit. Very better no existe; se dice much better.

Los errores del hispanohablante

ErrorPor qué pasaLo correcto
He is more tall than me.Calcamos más alto He is taller than me.
It is the most easy exercise.
She is more better now.Doblamos el comparativoShe is better now.
Madrid is bigger that Vigo.Confundimos than con that...bigger than Vigo.
The tallest of the class.Traducimos de la clase The tallest in the class.

Dos o más, se pone more o the most delante. Y luego solo quedan cinco irregulares por aprender.
