Parte 1 · Grammar (3 puntos)
- 1. Last summer we ___ (go) to Portugal for two weeks.went. Go es irregular: go, went, gone. Nada de goed.
- 2. While I ___ (walk) home, it started to rain.was walking. While casi siempre te pide el continuo.
- 3. There ___ twenty people at the party and only one cake.were. Twenty people es plural, así que there were. El singular sería there was one cake, y de hecho aparece en la misma frase.
- 4. This exercise is ___ (easy) than the last one.easier.
- 5. It is the ___ (interesting) book I have ever read.most interesting. Adjetivo largo, así que superlativo con the most. Con interestingest no existe la palabra.
- 6. She ___ (not / see) the film because she fell asleep.did not see (también vale didn’t see). En negativo, el pasado lo lleva did, y el verbo principal vuelve a la forma base: nunca did not saw.
Parte 2 · Vocabulary (2 puntos)
Completa con la palabra que falta. Seis huecos.
- 7. I usually ___ up at seven o’clock on school days.get. Get up es levantarse.
- 8. On Saturdays we ___ out with our friends.hang.
- 9. Excuse me, is there a chemist’s ___ here?near. Near here es por aquí cerca. Close pediría to: close to here.
- 10. You have to ___ the road at the traffic lights.cross.
- 11. The museum is ___ the bank and the post office.between. Between es entre dos cosas concretas. Si fueran más de dos, sería among.
- 12. My brother is really ___ at football, he never misses.good. Be good at something es dársete bien algo. La preposición es at, nunca in.
Parte 3 · Reading (2,5 puntos)
The summer my bike disappeared
When I was thirteen, I left my bike outside the swimming pool for twenty minutes. I did not lock it, because I was only going in to ask about the timetable. When I came out, it was gone.
My father was not angry, which was worse. He said nothing on the way home. That evening he took an old bike out of the garage, a heavy green one that had belonged to my uncle, and told me it was mine now.
I hated it. It was slower than my old bike and everybody laughed at it. But it never got stolen, because nobody wanted it, and I rode it every day for three years.
Last month I saw a bike exactly like it in a shop window, sold as vintage, for four hundred euros. I sent my father a photo. He answered with two words: told you.
- 13. Why did the writer not lock the bike?Because he had lost the keyBecause it was brokenBecause he was only going in for a momentBecause nobody stole bikes therePorque solo entraba un momento. El texto lo dice: I was only going in to ask about the timetable.
- 14. How did his father react? He said nothing at all on the way homeHe bought him a new bikeHe shouted at himHe made him pay for itNo dijo nada. Y el texto añade which was worse: el silencio le pareció peor que el enfado.
- 15. What was the green bike like?BrokenSlow and heavyNew and expensiveSmall and fastLenta y pesada. A heavy green one y slower than my old bike. Que ahora valga cuatrocientos euros no significa que entonces fuera nueva.
- 16. Why was the green bike never stolen?Because it was too expensiveBecause nobody wanted itBecause he always locked itBecause he kept it in the garagePorque nadie la quería. Lo dice tal cual: because nobody wanted it. Es la broma del texto.
- 17. What does told you mean here? His father was reminding him that he had been rightHis father was apologisingHis father wanted to buy the bikeHis father did not remember the bikeLe recuerda que tenía razón. Es la forma corta de I told you so, o sea, ya te lo dije. En inglés hablado se corta así.
