Elige o completa. Esto entra en B2 y C1.

  1. The lights are off. They ___ be out.can’tmustmight notmustn’tmust be out: deducción casi segura en positivo.
  2. That ___ be Ana.
  3. She isn’t answering. She ___ be asleep. (may)may / might / could: posibilidad. Los tres valen aquí; must sería demasiado seguro.
  4. He ___ the message. He never checks his phone.mustn’t have seencouldn’t seecan’t sawcan’t have seencan’t have seen: deducción negativa sobre el pasado, modal + have + participio. Mustn’t have no se usa para deducir.
  5. The ground is wet. It ___ during the night.must have rainedmust rainmust be raininghad to rainmust have rained.
  6. You ___ have studied more. You failed. (should)should have studied: reproche o arrepentimiento sobre el pasado. Se traduce como deberías haber.
  7. I ___ have left my keys at the office, but I’m not sure.mustmightcan’tshouldmight have left: posibilidad en el pasado, y el but I’m not sure lo confirma. Must have sería certeza.
  8. He ___ not have known. Nobody told him. (can)could not have known o cannot have known.
  9. You ___ have carried all that. I would have helped you.mustn’tcan’tneedn’tshouldn’tneedn’t have carried: lo hiciste, pero no hacía falta.
  10. She speaks perfect Italian. She ___ in Italy for years.must liveshould livecan livemust have livedmust have lived. También valdría must have been living.
  11. It’s only a scratch. It ___ have been much worse. (could)could have been: algo que estuvo a punto de pasar y no pasó. Muy frecuente al contar un susto.
