Escribe el verbo en la forma correcta o completa el hueco. Seis huecos, medio punto cada uno.

- 4. Every evening my father ___ read to us for half an hour.would. Para costumbres repetidas del pasado, would vale igual que used to. Ojo: con estados (be, have, like) solo se puede used to.
- 5. She ___ (drive) home when the accident happened.was driving. La acción larga en past continuous y la que la corta en past simple. Es el esqueleto de cualquier relato.
- 6. They ___ (not / tell) me about it until the next day.did not tell (o didn’t tell). Past simple en negativo: el did lleva el pasado y tell vuelve a la forma base.

Parte 3 · Reading (2,5 puntos)
Lee el texto y elige la opción correcta. Cinco preguntas, medio punto cada una.
The letter I did not send for nine years
When I was seventeen I fell out with my best friend over something so small that neither of us can remember it now. We had been inseparable since primary school. We stopped speaking in April and I left for university in September.
I wrote her a letter that summer. I never sent it. I had told myself that she would write first, and when she did not, the letter went into a box with my school books and stayed there.
Nine years later I was clearing out my mother’s house and I found it. I read it standing up in the hall. It was not a good letter. It was defensive and it blamed her for most of it, and I was very glad I had not sent it.
I wrote a new one that night, four lines long, and I posted it the next morning. She rang me before it had even arrived: my mother, who does not believe in waiting, had already told her sister.
- 13. Why did they stop speaking?Because of an examHer friend moved to universityOver something neither of them remembersBecause she moved awayPor algo que ninguna recuerda. Lo dice en la primera frase: so small that neither of us can remember it now.
- 14. Why did she not send the first letter? She lost itShe was waiting for her friend to write firstHer mother stopped herShe did not have the addressEsperaba que escribiera su amiga primero. I had told myself that she would write first.
- 15. What did she think of the old letter when she read it?That it was defensive and unfairThat it was funnyThat it was too shortThat it was beautifulQue era defensiva e injusta. Defensive and it blamed her for most of it, y se alegra de no haberla mandado.
- 16. What was the new letter like? The same as the firstVery longFour lines longA message on the phoneDe cuatro líneas. El contraste con la primera es la gracia del final.
- 17. Why did her friend ring before the letter arrived? She rang every yearThe letter was lateHer mother had already told her sisterShe had seen it in the post officeSu madre ya se lo había contado a la hermana. Y la autora lo justifica con una broma: who does not believe in waiting.
