Parte 1 · Grammar (3 puntos)

  1. 1. If I ___ (be) you, I would talk to her.were (también se admite was en habla informal, pero en el examen se pide were). Segundo condicional: situación imaginaria, y con I el verbo be va en were.
  2. 2. If we do not leave now, we ___ (miss) the train.will miss.
  3. 3. That is the woman ___ car was stolen.whose. Indica posesión: el coche es de ella. Who’s suena igual pero es who is, y aquí no encaja.
  4. 4. This is the app ___ I told you about.that (también vale which, y hasta dejarlo vacío). Relativo de cosas. Who es solo para personas.
  5. 5. Look out, you ___ (drop) that glass!are going to drop.
  6. 6. What ___ you do if you won the lottery?would.

Parte 2 · Vocabulary (2 puntos)

Completa con la palabra que falta. Seis huecos.

  1. 7. You have to ___ the app before you can use it.download. Descargar.
  2. 8. I cannot log ___ , I have forgotten my password.in. Log in es iniciar sesión, y salir es log out. Con on también se oye, pero in es lo estándar.
  3. 9. Wind and solar are ___ sources of energy.renewable. Renovables.
  4. 10. The factory ___ the river for years before anybody complained.polluted.
  5. 11. She applied ___ three jobs and got two interviews.for. Apply for a job.
  6. 12. He has a lot of ___ : he has been a teacher for twenty years.experience.

The village that owns its own wind

Feldheim is a village of 130 people in eastern Germany. Since 2010 it has produced all of its own electricity, and it sells what is left over.

The story started with a problem that had nothing to do with the environment. The village was emptying: young people left because there was no work, and there was no work because there was nothing there. In 1995 a student who had grown up in the village suggested putting up four wind turbines.

The families who agreed to host a turbine on their land were paid, and later the village built its own grid, which is why residents pay about a third of what other Germans pay for power. If they had joined the national grid, that would not have been possible.

Visitors come from all over the world, which has created more jobs than the turbines themselves. The village that was emptying now has a waiting list.

  1. 13. What was the original problem in Feldheim?Electricity was too expensiveThere was too much windPollutionYoung people were leavingQue se iban los jóvenes. El texto avisa de que el origen had nothing to do with the environment: era un problema de despoblación.
  2. 14. Who suggested the wind turbines?A student from the villageThe governmentA German companyThe families with landUn estudiante del pueblo. A student who had grown up in the village, en 1995.
  3. 15. Why do residents pay less for electricity?Because the village built its own gridBecause they use lessBecause the wind is freeBecause the government paysPorque el pueblo construyó su propia red.
  4. 16. What has created most jobs? The farmsThe gridThe turbinesThe visitorsLos visitantes. More jobs than the turbines themselves.
  5. 17. What does a waiting list mean here?People are waiting for workPeople are waiting for electricityPeople are waiting to move inPeople are waiting to leaveHay gente esperando para mudarse allí. Se entiende por el contraste con the village that was emptying.
