Parte 1 · Grammar (3 puntos)

  1. 1. I ___ (live) in this town since 2019.have lived (también vale have been living).
  2. 2. We ___ (meet) Ana at a concert three years ago.met.
  3. 3. She has worked here ___ ten years.for. For va con la duración (ten years) y since con el punto de partida (2019).
  4. 4. Be quiet, the baby ___ (sleep).is sleeping.
  5. 5. He ___ (not / usually / take) the bus to school.does not usually take.
  6. 6. ___ you ever eaten sushi?Have.

Parte 2 · Vocabulary (2 puntos)

Completa con la palabra que falta. Seis huecos.

  1. 7. My sister is very ___ : she talks to everybody at a party.outgoing. Extrovertido.
  2. 8. They had an argument and now they are not ___ terms.on. To be on good / bad terms with somebody es llevarse bien o mal con alguien. La preposición no cambia.
  3. 9. I get ___ really well with my cousin.on. Get on well with somebody es llevarse bien. En inglés americano dicen get along.
  4. 10. She ___ the exam with a 9,5.passed. Pass an exam es aprobarlo.
  5. 11. If you do not study, you will ___ the subject.fail. Fail es suspender. Y va sin preposición: fail the subject, no fail in.
  6. 12. He is very ___ : he never lends anybody anything.mean.

The exchange that did not happen

Every year my school has sent twenty students to a school in Bristol for two weeks. I had been waiting for my turn since I was eleven.

In March they cancelled it. The school in Bristol had lost its funding and could not host anybody. Our teacher told us in a corridor, between classes, which is not how you should tell anybody anything.

What happened next surprised all of us. Two students in my class wrote to the Bristol school and suggested doing it online instead: an hour a week, in pairs, with no teachers listening. Thirty-one students signed up, eleven more than would have gone to England.

I have been talking to a boy called Femi every Tuesday since October. My spoken English has improved more than it did in two years of classes, and it has cost nobody anything. We are still going to Bristol one day. But not because the school organises it.

  1. 13. How long had the writer been waiting for the exchange? Two weeksSince she was elevenSince MarchOne yearDesde los once años. Since I was eleven.
  2. 14. Why was the trip cancelled? The teacher was illIt was too expensive for the familiesToo few students signed upThe Bristol school lost its fundingLa escuela de Bristol se quedó sin financiación. Had lost its funding and could not host anybody.
  3. 15. What does the writer think about how they were told?It was funnyIt was a surpriseIt was fairIt was badly doneQue se hizo mal. Which is not how you should tell anybody anything: un comentario claro de la autora sobre la forma, no sobre la noticia.
  4. 16. How many students joined the online exchange?
  5. 17. What does the writer say about her English? It has not changedIt has improved more than in two years of classesShe only writes, she does not speakIt got worseHa mejorado más que en dos años de clase.
